Opening Reception: Friday, January 7th 7-10pm
Exhibition Dates: January 2 - January 30
Rosalux kicks off the new year with a January show called Outside of Time - Slow Journeys on Paper from Hend Al-Mansour and Eleanor McGough. Both artists will be presenting works of paper composed with incremental or sequential parts. Al-Mansour’s work includes images from the story of a young immigrant girl’s journey in pages from a book that she illustrated, and McGough’s work is an installation made up of small hand-cut paper pieces.
Eleanor McGough continues her exploration of ephemeral paper art with her hand-cut paper insects and recycled packaging materials. Along with the themes of insect population decline and habitat loss, this work also explores the human search for solace as we navigate an increasingly chaotic world, and come to terms with the grief of environmental degradation.
McGough examines her process of paper-cutting as a means of getting outside of time and how it can feel like a meditation where each diminutive piece becomes a part of a much larger idea.
Hend Al-Mansour is showcasing a children’s book illustration that the Commonwealth Theater Center commissioned her to make. The title of the book is Zaynab’s Night of Destiny. It is an outside of time night journey towards a girl’s own identity within our American social milieu. The original work (in gouache and ink on Yupo paper) will be on display together with copies of the book.
