SHAPESHIFT
Exhibition Dates: 03/11/23 - 03/26/23
Opening Reception: Saturday 03/11/23 7-10 PM
David Malcolm Scott’s art explores a world of artistic abstraction. The goal of his work is to create a coherent composition with forces that emerge as a painting progresses.
He seldom makes preliminary plans or sketches for these paintings. Working in watercolor and acrylics, the pieces often start with a vague idea of a color, line, shape or even a title. His formula is to act on these and to what is happening on the surface he’s working on, to not ponder too much but trust his instincts and move, act, make a mark. The hardest part is the trust, to really let go and not get blocked by thoughts, noise, and doubts. His process is informed by decades of painting, a sojourn with architecture and design, photography, and a long-time love of working with different materials.
Many of these paintings have had another life or even two. In their present life they have been transformed into something very different, although hints of their past remain. This SHAPESHIFT has brought another level of complexity to the work that has emerged.
David Malcolm Scott’s art has been exhibited in numerous Twin Cities galleries, various states, and overseas.
