Robert Roscoe

My work in designing re-uses for older buildings gives me the opportunity to look closely at certain configurations of materials and shapes in the built environment that possess aesthetic qualities in their own right.  My involvement in historic preservation gives me insight into architectural surfaces transformed by the effects of time, weather as well as human intentions and indifference.

Aging metropolises contain structures and fragments of landscapes in disintegration, no longer useful in an economic environment insistent on continual re-tooling itself. In my day-to-day observations, I find various arrangements of real objects that resonate with me, and getting close enough, I can photograph these objects in a way that they lose their sense of physical reality and become objects forming art.
